It is a sandstone rock formation. It is because of its colorful, undulating forms and its rugged surface.
The kaleidoscopic scenery extends a little way south into Arizona before the land becomes sandy and barren. The place can be visited for free with no access restriction,except the Paria canyon system which requires permission to entry.
